The reviewer R. Liston is correct about the color of the dial - it is black not blue, as I stated in my comment of his review. Otherwise the picture of the watch is correct. The watch band pictured e.g. is the same. The black dial color did not prevent me from keeping this beautiful Seiko. I submitted a request for a product change to amazon so we will see if their customer service is on the ball, and makes a change to the description and picture. If you Google the model number and go to Princeton watches you can see how this watch actually looks.

I would describe its appearance as casually elegant, and would say it has a style appropriate for anything other than sports (though it is water proof down to 30 meters (about 100 feet.) I bet it would even look great with a black tux. It keeps perfect time, too.

It comes with an English/Spanish operation manual, and can be registered online at Seiko's website. I purchased mine from amazon for eighty-eight dollars and eighty-two cents, about 3 weeks ago (September 2011). Amazon is an authorized Seiko dealer, however buying online from some company where amazon says "sold by so and so" and "fulfilled by amazon" is not the same thing. Mine was "sold and fulfilled by amazon," and that is the safest way to go to make sure you do not get a counterfeit (I wrote to Seiko customer service about my fear that I might get a counterfeit, and that was their reply, i.e. buy their watches from one of their authorized dealers.)

My first Seiko was lost when the jeweler sent it to Seiko to replace the band. He gave me a choice of any Seiko watch as a replacement and the one I chose is still working after 40 years (it loses a few minutes a day and the crystal is cracked.)

This classic one is a solar watch that shines, five stars all the way, and can be recharged through artificial or natural light. As soon as I held it under a regular light bulb, it started to move at 2 second intervals, then after it was under there for an hour or so, as the operation manual stated, it started to move in one second intervals, indicating it was fully charged.

I am 65 years old, but would be surprised if it did not last me the rest of my life. I may have to get a new rechargeable battery after a time, but other than that, I see no maintenance or repair, and would recommend this watch to anyone. You will have to take it to a jeweler to get a few links removed from the band to make it fit your wrist. That added just five bucks to the cost.

I've only had the watch a couple of weeks so far, but I really like it. When I got it, I left it on a sunny window sill for a few days to fully charge. I had to have a few links taken out, as I have small wrists. I don't wear it every day, as I am retired, and keep it on top of a dresser in a dimly lit bedroom. So far, so good for the solar charging. I really love the appearance. I came from a Seiko titanium self-winding watch that was wearing out, and was a bit concerned about the weight of this. It is fine. I don't notice the weight at all. As for setting it, the instructions were a bit confusing. I ended up setting the date by going back and forth between 9 PM and Midnight over and over until the date was one day short of current date. Then I set the day of the week, one day short, and then the time, taking the time past midnight to bring the day of the week and date to the current day and date. The stem only has two positions, while the instructions say three (for time, day and date), thus the method I used. Very happy with the watch.

This is a beautiful watch. I've only had it for a week and so far it keeps perfect time and I like the idea of a solar watch so I won't have to bother with batteries. But I am really annoyed that I had to pay a jeweler $10 to spend 5 minutes removing two links so it would fit. Why not charge 5or 6 dollars more and include the tool to remove links. It is not a highly technical operation. You simply punch out the pin and remove the links. The problem is that you can't do it without the tool.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Still worth the price.

Handsome watch. Day and date can easily be read. Clasp on the back is secure; I had to have some links removed. It's a bit heavier than most of my watches, but it has a solid heft to it and the band adds to the weight as well. In some lighting, it's a bit hard to see and the deep blue color appears and isn't as attractive as shown in this photo with the deep black look. Most of the time it looks black but viewed at an angle it has a blueish appearance and is less readable.

The bi-color metal band is nice and thin. I recommend buying a toolkit to resize the band. Using this tool I was able to resize the band easily. At the same time I bought a 30 pack watch battery set for all the household watches with dead batteries. I thought setting the date and day of the week was easy enough but when it changed date too soon twice, I realized there has to be a better way. There was. Change the date to the previous day of the week and date and then start spinning the time setting feature to move the hour hand which will eventually set to the correct day and date. Now the watch changes dates correctly. It does look great but now I wish I had bought the leather band.

Having to change watch batteries annually has not only become somewhat inconvenient, but everyone who has changed a battery for me has had problems either opening the watch or getting it closed. I purchased this watch in August of 2015. It is now May of 2016, and it continues to keep perfect time. It is very stylish and easy to read. It's nice to have a watch that requires absolutely no attention except, of course, when you have to advance the date at the end of a 30-day month. I make no special effort to expose it to sunlight. Whatever it gets appears to be enough to keep it well charged.

I've had this watch for a bit over four years and I'm about ready to take it to Goodwill. Its performance has been problematic since day one, typically running for several days or even weeks and then stopping cold. When not wearing it, I keep it on a window sill where it receives plenty of daylight. (It shares the window sill with two Casio solar watches for which I paid a fraction of what the Seiko set me back and they have never had a problem.) Perhaps I just got a lemon, but I won't be buying any more Seiko watches. Too bad, because it's a looker -- very stylish, handsome watch indeed.
