Better than the other brands!

Better than the other brands!
So wether you are a first time mom or having your thirteenth kid, YOU NEED THIS! I had used another brand prior because that’s what they gave me in the hospital. This one was cheaper on amazon so I decided to give it a whirl thinking even if it gives a tiny bit of relief it would be great. By the way this is my third baby, and I am just finding out about this. Well let me tell you this is the BEST, EASIEST, MOST RELIEF GIVING stuff ever! I will NEVER use the other stuff ever again. I use this every time I nurse right now since baby is only a week. It works so easily. It spreads easily when other brands do not (and let be honest any touching of that area hurts horribly so easy to spread is a must). I am glad that I found this stuff. I can tell when I forget to use it and it definitely hurts a lot more when I don’t use it.

The long and the short of it is, this product is absolutely liquid gold. My nipples were in the worst state they could have possibly been in, and in just about a week were almost back to normal. It has a mild soothing almost numbing quality to it (though not very strong), and protects tender skin from the air as well as from friction. It DOES stain clothes - so be aware of that. It also has a bit of a smell - kind of medicinal, kind of like an old wool sweater (lol). But honestly? This stuff could smell 100x worse and stain everything known to man and I would still use it because it is the only thing that made my poor, destroyed nipples feel any better. It also doesn't have to be removed from your skin to pump or nurse (unless it is excessively gooped on), though I do recommend wiping the inside of your pump flange if you use one because my dishwasher struggles to remove it.

If you want a detailed account, keep reading:

My partner and I just had a baby on 12/29/2020. I have been pumping since 12/30/2020 and let me tell you, it has been an awful ride for me. First, the pump that the hospital gave me had flanges that were way too small, which resulted in me getting blisters on my nipples and nipple blanching - AKA the skin was basically dying at the end of my nips. Then, my lactation consultant mis-sized my nips (which were swollen and extremely tender), and I ended up with flanges a size too large, which then pulled my areola into the pump, and caused the skin there to crack and swell as well. Needless to say, by the time I ordered this cream, my nipples looked like someone had run them through a cheese grater. I mean, they were awful. I couldn't touch them without actually literally yelping in pain, and nearly crying. It was, no joke, more painful than having a baby (for me - admittedly my whole experience was a lot easier than some people, but still). They bled. They wept constantly from being openly wounded. When I pumped, it hurt so badly I actually barfed a few times.

This was recommended to me by a friend of mine who had a similar experience a few years back with her nips after breastfeeding. I was super skeptical - I mean, how was a balm going to soothe what could only be described as my road-rash level raw nips??? But I was willing to try just about anything, and I AM SO GLAD I DID.

It comes in a decent size tube, and you do not need much so it will last you a while. At first, I was actually using it in two ways:

1.) I was absolutely smothering my nipples and areolas with it (looking back, I likely didn't need to use so much, but the stuff is cheap and I didn't care because it was soothing and a little bit numbing and I was going to cash in on that effect every second I could).

2.) I was using re-usable breastmilk pads with a large dollop placed over where my nipple was inside my bra to keep the area very well moistened and to reduce rubbing on the inside of my bra as well as keep the stuff from staining my bra.

After about a week - 6 days, really - my nipples had gone from cracked and bleeding and unfathomably painful to nearly normal (keep in mind I did also get proper flanges for my breast pump in this time and that allowed my nipples to heal). I am still using it daily after pumping, now, and it keeps my skin feeling normal and soft! I cannot recommend this product enough. If you are debating it, just do it. Seriously. This was such a quality of life upgrade and I know I am sounding a bit like an infomercial but, honestly, there is absolutely no reason not to try this if you are already hurting and suffering. I even use it on my dry skin on my face from wind chapping. The moment I start running low I'm going to be grabbing more, and if I have any friends who are pregnant, I'm including it in baby shower gifts.

For all the new breastfeeding mamas out there , this is the product for you. I was determined to breastfeed and had no idea the toll it can take on your nipples. I was given this product from the hospital and it gave me relief so quick. I would apply it after every feeding as you do not have to wipe it off before a feeding. I tried a couple other ones when I ran out and went back to this product. You can also use this on baby's lips if they look chapped.

Updated 3/24/2021. I have breastfed 8 children through plugged ducts, mastitis, tongue ties, a lip tie & nerve damage in my breast (since my 2nd child).

I was given the other brand of lanolin, that's much more well known; at the hospital with. My first child in 2006 & used that brand exclusively with the first three babies. I used four tubes of that other brand of lanolin with my third & found zero results. I was bleeding, sore, I had layers of skin that had peeled off. It was terrible. I decided I needed a nipple shield badly & when I went to pick one up I found this Medela brand lanolin right next to the nipple shield, since I also needed more lanolin & the other hadn't made a dent, I figured I'd try it. I didn't even know there was another brand until then.

Within 3 applications there was a world of difference. I mean I used 3 of the other brand's entire tubes & saw no results. I had only used the medela brand 3 times & already saw a huge difference. It was like a miracle. Seems dramatic I know, but it had been almost two months of raw, bloody, painful, cracked, sore nipples.

Since then, June 2010, I only use & buy as a gift, the medel brand Lanolin. I love this brand so much that at one point medela had sent me some tiny (sample) tubes of their lanolin & when I went to give birth to my 4th child I gave the sample tubes to the lactation consultant so she could give them away because I felt that Medela brand lanolin is far superior to the one that the hospital gives away.

As far as a foul or rancid smell, I really don't know what others are speaking of. It sounds like they aren't changing their breastpads, shirts or bras often enough. I'm not being condescending, just that I've nursed 6 babies using this lanolin from 2010 until now and I have never had this issue. I produce a ton of milk & also pump often to relieve pressure in my chest since I have nerve damage in my breast. I use the lanolin not just after nursing but also while pumping. I use at least two-three tubes a year because even though it lasts a long time I use it very often.

The children I've used this brand with are now 11, 9, (a baby that passed away that would have been 8 this year) 6, 4 & 2 They all nursed longer than a year with the exception of the baby that passed. With each child I had at least a deep freezer full of pumped milk. Never did I ever have a problem with a sour smell. But it does sound like a common accurance when mom leaks & doesn't change often enough. That would be an issue with any brand of lanolin.

Es muy buena para los pezones lastimados, quita el dolor y los humecta. Mi bebé de pronto hace caras al agarrar el pezón con lanolina, pero sé que no le hace daño y no tengo que estarme limpiando.
