Casio

With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

Good watch, working as expected.Battery is at "mid" level since watch was purchased (start of December), but now is winter, most of the time, sky is cloudy and I wear it under long sweater sleeves...The watch can sunchronize time also when I wear it during night sleep (I live in Athens Greece, my house is not behind big buildings or mountain). In order to check if solar panel is working do the following:1. Press buttons "adjust", "reverse" and "forward" at the same time.2. Screen will clear and "SLR" will be displayed.3. Move to a place with more light or4. Wait for 3-4 seconds and put your finger over the solar panel at the top of the screen.5. Remove your finger, if solar panel works, you will see "8888" displayed on screen.6. Press any button to return to time-keeping mode. This will not harm your watch, I did it several times.Update 3rd of June 2017: battery indicator turned to "high"

Very well made atomic solar. took a couple of hours in the bright sun to get the energy level from medium to high. when i opened the shipping box i noticed that the watch had synced that day, but since i received it, the atomic syncing hasn't worked. I live in the Washington DC area, and the watch hasnt been able to sync either by itself or manually since i got it 5 days ago. Checked and the auto sync feature is on. I've also tried several times to sync it manually, several times in different locations outside, in clear sunlight, with no obstructions anywhere to be seen, but no dice. My prior Casio GWM 500A-1 atomic solar, which i used for about 7 years until the solar battery stopped recharging, synced every night while sitting on my end table, but for whatever reason this new watch refuses. I returned a new GWM 500A-1 back to Amazon just last week because like the GW-M500BA-1CR i have and is the subject of this review, the GWM 500A-1 i got a couple of weeks back also refused to sync. Hope it's not a situation where the new batch of Casio atomic solars are problematic in that respect. Good watch, but i can't give it 5 stars if one of the essential features of the watch refuses to work.

update - April 26, 2016. the syncing issue on this Casio hasn't completely resolved, but it does now sync probably 3 -4 times a week. That's enough so that it's pretty much spot on all the time. The syncing doesn't seem particularly correlated to whether I have it next to a window facing West (I live in the DC area) or not. Can't figure it out but it's a beautiful watch and I definitely recommend it. IMO the blue tone of the dial really makes the watch stand out. No, it won't ever be confused with an expensive automatic, but i find that this watch is charming in its perfect timing, no battery needed way. Every day wear, including in the shower. I put it on energy saver mode, so hopefully I will get many years of service out of this watch piece before having to get a replacement. I would move my rating now to 4 1/2 stars.

It's a nice looking watch, however, the displays on the screen seems to be faded or "washed out" a little bit while under a bright light or environment to the point where I have to turn my wrist a certain angle to see, otherwise, it's not readable and I can't tell the time . I'm not sure why but my old G-shock watch similar to this one was better and the backlight was brighter than this one. When I push the backlight button on this one it doesn't really light up too much. Maybe the battery needs to be charged, as it is showing "medium."?

Only had the watch around a year and it has moisture behind the lens. Warranty doesn't cover anything except the mechanism. For this kind of money I expected more durability. I've never taken the watch underwater (outside giving kids a bath)

My first g shock, but third Casio. Surprisingly comfortable, perhaps moreso than my Protrek. Initially it was having issues syncing with the atomic clock, but has been doing so consistently for the past couple of nights. However even if it doesn't sync every night, it is a quartz watch so the accuracy is going to be good even if it only syncs a couple times a year.
Otherwise it's typical Casio. Alarms, world time, stop watch and countdown timer.
I will say this, if you're buying this watch for looks, just know the gray portion of the case shown in the picture is darker in person. It's almost as black as the raised portions at 12 and 6 o'clock portions. It's basically all black.
UPDATE: the watch has been syncing reliably for the past two weeks+. At first I was leaving it on my window to sync overnight, when it became clear that that was unreliable I just began leaving it on my shelf with my other watches. Since I started doing that, it's only ever missed once.

This watch is great, smaller than I expected. Arrived earlier than the expected delivery date, all functions working and battery charge is already in mid. I gave 4 star because of the packaging box, the actual watch's box only occupied 1/4 of the packaging box that's why I had to pay more for the shipping. Other than that, I love this watch!

This is an awesome watch. I place the watch on the windowsill before retiring and it updates time consistently by 12:04 am. It shows both the date and the day and has a setting to automatically activate the light when you look at the watch in the dark. In the morning, you can easily check to confirm that it has updated. Just a note. The atomic clock used to update the watch is only in standard time. There is a setting to automatically convert the time to DST. I replaced my old G shock digital because re-setting it was an involved process, I'm not a high tech guy. This watch automatically adjusts time daily and has a solar battery. It's also a very nice looking watch. It certainly lives up to it's reviews and I couldn't be happier. I usually don't write reviews but this is an exception.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch!
Reviewed in Canada on May 11, 2018
Bought this mainly for work and casual use. Watch looks very nice, sporty look, and weighs like a feather. Item was delivered on time but the packaging wasn't sealed properly. Gladly the watch was untouched and covered in bubble wrap. Battery on full since opened from the box and there were no scratches or signs of being used before.

You might think the watch is not functioning properly! That's what I thought at first but just follow the manual on the "How to's" and give it a night then it should be working perfectly the following day. However 4-stars because I didn't expect the labels would be too small and kinda hard to read (Except for the time and date).

Overall it was a great buy! Highly recommended to every men who loves durable, reliable, and sporty digital watch!

Arrived earlier than suggested. Was a repackage item as no protective plastic was on the watch face and no tags on the bands buckle. Also was in a box and not in the usual gshock tin. For the price I paid was worth it. Time is accurate, maintaing a charge and all features are fully functional.
